The kids are having a Halloween party at school. They choose to bring chips and dip and drinks. Have I got an pinterest idea for ya'll!!! I pinned a project turning juice boxes in to mummies. Once again I let the kids do the project. It was actually pretty easy, a little time consuming but I think it turned out well. What you need are juice boxes, white duck tape and googly eyes.
Halloween Postscript The kids are having a Halloween party at school. Remove the straw from the juice box and cover the box with white duck tape. Leave a whole for the straw to be inserted. Attach the googly eyes and your done. I think they turned out great!!! At least I didn't have to use the "advanced" tape machine or the hot glue gun! Anyone else have one last Halloween project?

Halloween Decorations X3 - I took my own advice! As you can imagine Halloween is big at our house!!! Having three eleven year olds they want HALLOWEEN! This year I decided to let them really help and create the outside decorations. (Its number 3 from a previous blog about holiday stress.) The first decoration we put out is our witches broom and sign. Next comes “Bonnie” aka "Boney". Then they wanted to create new decorations. I was amazed at their creativity and enthusiasm!!! Sam really wanted to create a new creature so he created Scream. It is just a Scream mask and a black cape tied on a tree. Once Scream was up, then he wanted to stuff a skeleton costume and put it outside. I couldn’t think of anything to stuff it with (without going to the store) that would not ruin in case it rains. I keep my Halloween decorations in a black long storage bin. We decided to use that as a coffin with the skeleton inside. This worked great. Then he wanted to create a headless creature. So he put together a red cape tied on a pole with a fake pumpkin for the head. Nick came up with the idea to put a Jason mask on a pumpkin, a quick and easy decoration. Hannah cobwebbed the mailbox. It was so fun to see their confidence grow with their creations. They were proud of their accomplishments and that we used their own ideas. Our decorations may not be perfect or match exactly but it’s Halloween and there is a lot of love out there. I had enough energy left over to make monster cupcakes with the kids. An added bonus! Anyone else have Halloween gone wild? I'd love to hear other ideas and see pictures. Please leave a comment.
I was reading Family Volley a website about family and advice for a better tomorrow. In one of her blogs she claimed to have the "best laundry tip ever". I figured I needed to check that out. Sure enough I think it is a great tip. She says as part of her morning routine when she wakes up she puts on a load of laundry. By the time breakfast is done she switches the load to the dryer. By the time she returns from droping off her kids at school the laundry is ready to be folded and put away. She says she does this every day so the loads are small and manageable.
I’m daydreaming that my life is exciting perhaps even sordid, not just about laundry. On Saturday everything we owned was clean. This is what I faced Monday morning. I should be used to this phenomenon because I faced this before the kids were born. It was a rude awakening to learn I was supposed to laundry all the new baby clothes!
As I am writing this blog I should be sorting the whites and colors! Do people still do this? How do 5 people create this pile of laundry in two days? It's Monday, the day I normally do laundry. I have to do laundry every couple of days not just on Monday. Anyone else grow up with specific days to do specific chores? I remember Mom doing laundry on Monday. There is a tradition in New Orleans where they have red beans and rice on Monday because it’s wash day. In one of the Little House on the Prairie books, Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote about when Ma did her chores. “Wash on Monday, Iron on Tuesday, Mend on Wednesday, Churn on Thursday, Clean on Friday, Bake on Saturday, and Rest on Sunday.” I also remember when we hung the clothes outside on the clothes line. Remember how stiff the clothes would be when you brought them in? Anyone remember ironing and being old enough to iron more than just hand-kerchiefs? It was a coming of age rite. Mom had a giant water bottle that she used to sprinkle our clothes so they ironed up beautifully. Now it seems more romantic than when I lived through it. My kids would balk at having to hang clothes on the line and I rarely iron these days. Maybe one day laundry will be a faint romantic memory! I want an iPhone, an iPad, or an iPod but my husband told me I didn’t use the iRon he bought me… |
I am an older mom with multiples. To say it the P.C. way, I have "advanced maternal age".
