On Saturday everything we owned was clean. This is what I faced Monday morning.
As I am writing this blog I should be sorting the whites and colors! Do people still do this?
How do 5 people create this pile of laundry in two days?
It's Monday, the day I normally do laundry. I have to do laundry every couple of days not just on Monday. Anyone else grow up with specific days to do specific chores? I remember Mom doing laundry on Monday. There is a tradition in New Orleans where they have red beans and rice on Monday because it’s wash day. In one of the Little House on the Prairie books, Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote about when Ma did her chores. “Wash on Monday, Iron on Tuesday, Mend on Wednesday, Churn on Thursday, Clean on Friday, Bake on Saturday, and Rest on Sunday.” I also remember when we hung the clothes outside on the clothes line. Remember how stiff the clothes would be when you brought them in? Anyone remember ironing and being old enough to iron more than just hand-kerchiefs? It was a coming of age rite. Mom had a giant water bottle that she used to sprinkle our clothes so they ironed up beautifully. Now it seems more romantic than when I lived through it. My kids would balk at having to hang clothes on the line and I rarely iron these days. Maybe one day laundry will be a faint romantic memory!
I want an iPhone, an iPad, or an iPod but my husband told me I didn’t use the iRon he bought me…
